The choice though can be quite bewildering (Tripadvisor lists 285 in the town), which is why we have produced this guide to ten of the best restaurants in Cheltenham. This Michelin-starred restaurant showcases the best of modern British cuisine, with innovative dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. From their signature tasting menus to à la carte options, every bite at Lumiere is a culinary masterpiece. Lumiere prides itself on the quality of the food it sources, some of which even comes from the owner’s family farm, Lumiere is featured in Harden’s Guide as one of the top 100 restaurants in the UK. Prithvi Restaurant – a 2 minute walk from StayLets
Step into a world of exquisite Indian cuisine at Prithvi Restaurant. Known for its refined flavors and elegant presentation, Prithvi offers a contemporary take on traditional Indian dishes. Sample their five or seven-course tasting menu for a culinary journey through the vibrant flavors of India. Prithvi is one of those restaurants where each dish is presented like a work of art and it tastes just as good. Prithvi is part of the JM Socials family of restaurants which include Holee Cow, Bhoomi Kitchen, Petit Social and Bao + BBQ. Bosco Pizzeria – a 8 minute walk from StayLets
Bosco’s is a relatively new addition to the Cheltenham restaurant scene, having only opened in 2023. It has quickly established itself as a firm favourite with local residents and tourists alike. It’s extensive menu includes a range of authentic Italian Pizzas, Pasta Dishes and Larger Plate dishes. StayLets tip – the cured meats here make for an excellent starter. During the summer and weather when the weather is kind the outside tables are a great spot to eat out overlooking Imperial Gardens.
Purslane Restaurant – a 4 minute walk from StayLets
Nestled in the heart of Cheltenham, Purslane Restaurant celebrates the best of seasonal British produce with its ever-changing menu. Purslane in case you didn’t know it is a low, trailing plant with small yellow flowers and fleshy leaves, that can be foraged on the seashore. This is more than a nod to its specialism for which it is renowned – fresh seafood. Every dish at Purslane is crafted with care and attention to detail. As well as an A La Carte menu the restaurant also has a 6 course and 8 course tasting menu. Jay Raynor in reviewing Purslane for The Guardian concluded by saying – “Oh, you know; it’s all just bloody lovely. It’s what people mean by the perfect neighbourhood restaurant. I might just have to move home, so it ends up as mine”. Praise indeed. StayLets tip – if you want to experience Purslane on a budget try their fixed price, two or three course lunch.
Le Champignon Sauvage – a 13 minute walk from StayLets
Experience the pinnacle of fine dining at Le Champignon Sauvage, Cheltenham’s Michelin-starred restaurant. Chef David Everitt-Matthias showcases his culinary prowess with a French style menu that highlights the best of British ingredients, transformed into innovative and exquisite dishes. Rated 10/10 for Food by Marina O’Loughlin in the Guardian. StayLets tip – expect fine dining at its best with a peaceful, very refined ambiance. Mobile phones are not permitted at the table.
The Coconut Tree – a 17 minute walk from StayLets
For a taste of Sri Lankan street food in the heart of Cheltenham, look no further than The Coconut Tree. This vibrant and lively restaurant serves up a variety of small plates bursting with bold flavors and spices, perfect for sharing with friends and family. From this its first restaurant – there are now 8 Coconut Tree restaurants and plans are in hand to expand into London next. StayLets tip – delicious dishes and fantastic flavours are combined here with fun “Cocotails” and a relaxed island vibe.
Kibou Sushi – a 7 minute walk from StayLets
Satisfy your sushi cravings at Kibou Sushi, Cheltenham’s premier destination for Japanese cuisine. From fresh sashimi to creative maki rolls, Kibou offers a diverse selection of Japanese delights, all expertly prepared by skilled chefs. From humble origins in a basement in Regent Street, the restaurant is now in a prime location as part of the Regent Arcade Shopping Centre and has expanded to five sites across the country. StayLets tip – if you love Japanese food you will love Kibou. Also very child-friendly.
The Ox Cheltenham – a 2 minute walk from StayLets
Sink your teeth into perfectly cooked steaks and mouthwatering burgers at The Ox Cheltenham. This contemporary steakhouse prides itself on serving high-quality meats sourced from local suppliers, paired with an extensive wine list and craft cocktails. It has a hard-earned reputation for some of the best steaks in Cheltenham, though Sef Steakhouse is also worthy of a mention. StayLets tip – if you are staying the weekend in Cheltenham make sure to check out their sharing roasts, which are accompanied by Yorkshire Puddings which are very highly rated.
Memsahib’s Lounge – a 9 minute walk from StayLets
Memsahib’s Lounge is discretely tucked away in a basement in the Promenade. Memsahib’s serves seasonal and sustainably sourced and prepared Indian cuisine with a difference. From it’s excellent Experience Menus to it’s sharing plates and Afternoon Tea with a difference, Memsahib’s food and cocktails are very highly rated. StayLets tip – try at least one of Memsahib’s Signature Cocktails. Two of our favourites are their Signature Teapot Cocktail or their Indian Masala Gins – they look as good as they taste. We guarantee you will want to photograph them to share with friends.
